Brunel Engineers wow in annual showcase

Robotic sharks, GPS canes and turbo-charged engine designs were all on show at this year's Brunel Engineers, an annual showcase of final-year engineering students' major projects.

Given the unenviable task of choosing their favourite projects, sponsors from prestigious organisations such as Bosch and TWI helped pick 2018’s Brunel Engineers Award winners.

Best mechanical engineering project

For the design, analysis and validation of FSAW Chassis and Aerodynamics – a project which outlined the work of the chassis division of Team BMM, who represented Brunel at the Formula SAE 2017/2018 competition

For innovation in engineering, sustainability and design

For the design and research of a formula student vehicle – a project for which the team managed to increase the downforce on the front wing of their car by 29%.

For real time facial expression recognition and heart-rate estimation on Raspberry Pi – a project which set out to develop a novel system to perform emotion recognition and heart rate detection, purely from video.
