Tell us about your educational and/or career journey since you graduated from Brunel?
I graduated with a first-class degree in Journalism in July 2020 and launched Ariana Magazine in August 2020. Ariana Magazine aims to showcase the beautiful and positive side of Afghanistan to the whole world, not just for Afghans but non-Afghans as well, and demonstrating the talented individuals in the Afghan community including models, actors, singers, artists and much more. I publish new issues every two months and it is available worldwide in print and digitally on the Ariana Magazine website. 10% of the profits for the digital version of the magazine goes to raising money for the less fortunate in Afghanistan by providing food packs with essentials such as rice, sugar, oil and much more.
What does a typical day at work involve for you?
A typical day for Ariana Magazine includes a variety of tasks such as researching ideas and topics for the magazine, contacting and interviewing the people featured inside my magazines, creating and arranging the content in the magazine and writing up the articles. I also design the magazines and then promote it and sell it on my website.
What is your best memory of studying here?
I have a lot of memories of studying at Brunel, such as being part of the Afghan Society where I was the President in the year 2018-2019 and then the Charity Officer in the year 2019-2020. I met lots of amazing people during the years. I am also happy to have been able to raise money alongside my committee members and with the help of the people who attended and volunteered in the Society to build a water pump in Afghanistan. The water pump was built in Fazel Beg on the outskirts of Kabul, which is helping over 600 people in the area. You can find out more about our water pump charity project in our YouTube video.
What would be your top tip or key advice for new graduates as they begin their career journey after leaving Brunel?
The advice I would give to new graduates as they begin their career journey after leaving Brunel is that you should continue doing what you are passionate about and never give up. I am very passionate about my roots in Afghanistan and I have shown this throughout my journalistic and charitable works.
