Tell us about your educational and/or career journey since you graduated from Brunel?
I started my career as an Assistant Professor of Business Information Technology and Analytics at Princess Sumaya University for Technology in Amman, the capital of Hashemite Kingdom of Jordan. I received my PhD degree from Brunel in Computing and Business Intelligence back in 2019.
What does a typical day at work involve for you?
A typical day in my life has been better ever since I started my career as an Assistant Professor; that involves teaching and preparing for classes, and I enjoy dealing with different students. There is such endless variety in the topics I get to think about and teach, the projects I work on, and the people I meet from different academic backgrounds.
What’s been the highlight of your career journey so far?
I think that the highlight of my career arrived when I graduated and accomplished my PhD degree from Brunel, which took years of hard work.
How would you say your Brunel experience has helped you to get where you are today?
Graduating from Brunel has had a significant influence on me; the learning process was not only restricted to scientific grounds but also influenced me on various levels.
Why did you choose to study at Brunel and why would you recommend Brunel to others?
I choose to study in Brunel due to my admiration of the city of London! Additionally, the Department of Computer Science where I graduated is one of the leading research centres in Europe, with an outstanding level of quality effort conducted. All the academics, postgraduate students, and administrative officers working for the department are professionals in their fields, and they bring with them significant industry experience, which they share during the PhD supervision journey. Most notably, everyone is very friendly, and doors are always open to students pursuing any type of help or guidance.
What is your best memory of studying here?
For me the best memories are the countless day and night hours I spent in the department lab trying to finalise my PhD thesis - these are hours that I will never forget for the rest of my life! I think my PhD journey will inspire my children to never give up.
If you could give one piece of advice to current Brunel students, what would that be?
Keep enjoying the beautiful Brunel campus, especially in spring when blooming tulips are all over the campus and spring-flowering bulbs begin emerging from the campus ground! This can be a fantastic inspiration!
What would be your top tip or key advice for new graduates as they begin their career journey after leaving Brunel?
