After three years at Brunel undertaking LLB Law, I am finally graduating in the class of 2021 and proud to be one of The Honorable Society of Middle Temple's top scholars. In May 2021, after an intense application process, I was notified that I had been chosen to receive the Queen Mother's Scholarship, which is designed to assist the most outstanding candidate.
Commitment to the Bar
The scholarship requires high academic achievement and demonstration of commitment to the Bar. Since childhood, I was inspired to pursue a career in law. My interests led me to great work opportunities where I could witness life as a Family Law Barrister throughout my degree. During my final year, a chapter of my dissertation was submitted to Parliament for the current ongoing debate about Clause 44 of the Domestic Abuse Bill 2021; my work promotes the necessary reasons for judicial training on domestic abuse to become mandatory for all Judicial Officers. My research and work experience have reassured me of my choice to become a Family Law Barrister.
The value of being awarded a scholarship
I am honoured to be a part of Middle Temple and to be one of their top scholars. Without the scholarship, I would not pursue the Bar and could most likely not afford to continue my studies at such high financial costs. Achieving this scholarship demonstrates that even people who come from deprived and disadvantaged backgrounds can succeed at the Bar. It is possible. Middle Temple levels the playing field by providing financial support.
Looking to the future
This award will allow me to pursue the Bar, and also gives me a chance to become a Barrister and eventually accomplish my dream of becoming a Family Court Judge. This award has enabled me to succeed in a field I was told would not be possible to achieve.
