Tell us about your educational and/or career journey since you graduated from Brunel?

After my MSc. in financial mathematics at Brunel University, I was granted a PhD scholarship in life insurance and financial engineering at UCLouvain in Belgium. After my PhD graduation in 2020, I was hired at KBC Group as model validator.

What does a typical day at work involve for you?

My day at work consists of reviewing model implemented by modellers. In fact, I read the model documentation, checking if it's content is in-line with international regulations, company's guidelines as well as mathematical best practice. Based on these, I provide my advice/opinion on the validity of the model and issue tasks if necessary.

How would you say your Brunel experience has helped you to get where you are today?

What I have studied at Brunel has been actively used during my PhD and is being currently used in my work.

Why did you choose to study at Brunel and why would you recommend Brunel to others?

I studied at Brunel first because I was granted a scholarship and I discovered how diversified the students and lecturers at Brunel are. I was warmly welcomed, I felt at home with people always ready to help both for studies and for private life. I would definitely recommend Brunel to other because of these as well as the high quality of the teachings as well as the highly competent/experienced lecturers.

What is your best memory of studying here?

Knowledge challenges with classmates during tutorials, as well as the relaxing atmosphere during group assessments: having fun while learning.

If you could give one piece of advice to current Brunel students, what would that be?

Gain the max knowledge from your lecturers (ask questions, challenge them) always question the direct application of every course in order to be prepared for a career in private companies. Above all, enjoy your stay and life at Brunel: have fun with friends, live and make good memories. ...

What would be your top tip or key advice for new graduates as they begin their career journey after leaving Brunel?

Never stop working hard and keep updating your knowledge in this fast-changing world.
