2024 Annual Policy School event in Whitehall

PPS1

A huge well done to our final year Public Policy students who worked hard on developing policy briefs and advice  to tackle childhood obesity  at our annual Policy School event in Whitehall.

We offer students a unique opportunity to get hands-on experience of tackling policy challenges, working in groups and at pace, to craft high quality policy advice. Our Policy School workshops take small groups of students to the heart of Whitehall for a day-long event, working with our partners in the Open Innovation Team.

Each workshop takes a particular policy challenge as the theme for the day, including: improving water quality in Britain's rivers and lakes, promoting renewable energy, and reducing the UK's carbon emissions. This year we gave our students the task of reducing childhood obesity.

The day involves fast-paced team working to research the problem, identify options, and select one to make a recommendation to a panel of decision makers. Advice is pulled together into a pithy presentation to make the case, discuss pros, cons and mitigations, and field tough questions from the panel. One team is crowned the winner. It's not all hard work though, as students also receive advice on civil service careers and get a walking tour of Westminster!
