The New Hospital Programme (NHP) launched a summer 2024 call for innovative proposals across all participating NHP Trusts, receiving 69 submissions, of which 13 were selected. One successful project is a collaboration between The Hillingdon Hospital NHS Trust (THH), Brunel University of London, and Reneural Ltd.
This project focuses on creating a dashboard enabling clinicians, especially physiotherapists and occupational therapists, to remotely prescribe, interact with, and monitor stroke rehabilitation. The dashboard is designed to enhance the efficiency and effectiveness of physiotherapy for stroke survivors, particularly those with upper-limb challenges. By integrating with Reneural’s Virtual Reality rehabilitation system, opportunities are provided for increased intensity of practice for stroke survivors with remote support and monitoring. The initiative supports hospital and community-based therapy teams, including those at the Early Stroke Support Discharge (ESD) team within CNWL (Central and North West London NHS Foundation Trust).
Key goals of the project include: Enhancing patient-therapist interaction and patient’s outcomes by tailoring therapy to individual needs; Promoting sustainability by reducing the carbon footprint through fewer patient commutes to rehabilitation facilities and Innovating digital health pathways by leveraging remote therapy.
The multidisciplinary team behind this project comprises:
- THH: Debbie Neilsen, Dr Basam Aweid, Vicky Stewart
- CNWL: Sneha Vobilisetty
- Reneural: Victor Harabi and Heraldas Gaspariunas
- Brunel University of London: Dr. Gabriella Spinelli, Dr. David Bell, and Prof. Cherry Kilbride.
