International Events
Throughout Brunel’s 50th anniversary year multiple events have taken place around the world, allowing us to celebrate this milestone with our international community.
Our alumni celebrations in Beijing, Shanghai and Hong Kong at the beginning of April were a tremendous success. It was wonderful to see so many enthusiastic and emotional reunions between friends who hadn’t seen each other since their graduation day. It was even more thrilling for us to watch as professional connections were developed, and new relationships were formed. A special thanks must be given to Rui Liu and his team of alumni volunteers, who has been instrumental in helping the alumni network within China grow.
The One World Week celebrations in February also saw a number of worldwide events taking place, to celebrate Brunel’s international community. In Pakistan, our alumni fabulous evening in Karachi and launched their official Pakistan Alumni Chapter. It was wonderful to see so many people celebrating together, reminiscing and sharing stories of their university days. A specially created banner was signed by each guest at the event, and now has pride of place in the Brunel Alumni Office! Special thanks must be given to Usman Shafiq and his team of volunteers who made the whole evening possible. In Colombia, alumni were even serenaded!: “In the venue we went to, they sing for your table depending of what you are celebrating. When we told them that we were celebrating Brunel’s 50th anniversary, they decided that my husband would be Mr. Brunel. They put a crown on his head and sang Happy Birthday to him!” – Milena Moreno
Many other gatherings were held across the globe, from Singapore to Accra and we hope that this annual event will only become more popular through the next 50 years of Brunel.
Unfortunately, we cannot have university visits to every country, every year. We are incredibly lucky to have numerous enthusiastic alumni volunteers all over the world who help us to keep the Brunel connection strong in over 110 countries. They are invaluable to the university and always eager to find new Brunelians in their local areas.
