The winner of the 2013 Brunel University African Poetry Prize, Warsan Shire, has collaborated with Beyonce on her new album, ‘Lemonade’.
The new ‘visual album’, released on 23 April, has attracted a flurry of media attention for it themes of relationships and infidelity. It heavily features Warsan’s poetry interspersed between the songs, securing her a credit on the album second only to Beyonce.
The BBC said of her contribution:
‘We might feel we’re staring into Beyoncé’s soul – but it is via the pen of a London-based poet.’
