For the General Election 2017, Brunel University London was assigned as the vote-counting base for the Uxbridge and South Ruislip, Hayes and Harlington and Ruislip, Northwood and Pinner constituencies.
Journalism students from Brunel reported live on the general election throughout the night as Boris Johnson won his seat in the Uxbridge constituency.
Undergraduate and Masters Journalism, Creative Writing and English students got their first taste of real-world public affairs and spent the night writing, interviewing, filming and live tweeting the results at the count for West London constituencies.
Three of the counts, including the Uxbridge took place in the Brunel Indoor Athletic Centre and attracted a lot of media interest. The @ge17news team joined the melee, posting stories, video, audio and photographs to the West London news website, creating a Twitter profile for the evening and using the hashtags #BrunelGE17 and #GE17news to promote conversation around the events as they unfolded.
Student also created original artwork and videos to promote their project. Visit our GE17 page for more information on what our Journalism students got up to.
