Dr Pin Lean Lau, Lecturer in Bio-Law at Brunel Law School, has recently been at the helm of several high-impact projects.
Dr Lau currently leads a Thematic Network Project on the EU Health Policy Platform on behalf of the Brunel Centre for Artificial Intelligence: Social & Digital Innovations. Together with her collaborators, she prepared a joint statement that she presented on 19 April in Luxembourg before the European Commission.
This Joint Statement focuses on actions needed to benefit from the important potential of AI in health while protecting key populations from the risk of harmful effects with the main objective of preventing AI algorithmic tools from deepening health inequalities in the EU while reinforcing patterns of bias and discrimination.
Simultaneously, the Joint Statement, in its recommendations, aims to direct the use of AI in health in responsible, participatory, ethical, and equitable ways, exploring how its use and deployment could have the potential to close the chasm of health inequalities for key populations.
Dr Lau was also appointed to lead the UK & European Chapter of the Responsible Metaverse Alliance (RMA). The RMA is a global alliance spear-headed by Dr. Catriona Wallace, world-leading entrepreneur and specialist in the field of AI; together with Dr. Sarah Klain, Dr. Louis Rosenberg, and Dr. Benjamin Payne.
The RMA Charter is dedicated to 4 key pillars: responsible Metaverse practices; Metaverse platform regulation; bridging of worlds; and ensuring inclusiveness in the Metaverse – and as an alliance, has already been successfully doing some tremendous work in advising governments and policy makers on standards, policing, regulation and safety in the Metaverse
