Biography
Lieutenant John Steele spent three years at Borough Road College, graduating with a BSc and later achieving a BA in 1911. He is listed as being destined to remain at Borough Road College. He joined the Royal Naval Volunteer Reserve on 16 November 1915 and was positioned aboard HMS Peel Castle as an interpreter of German and “Scandinavian’. He was 34 when he perished in a ship’s fire on 7 February 1916 off Deal, Kent.
