Sustainability at Brunel Uni Food
Every day, we provide innovative catering, hospitality and food service solutions across the campus. And we are committed to doing all of this responsibly. Nurturing our environment, delivering highest levels of safety, taking an active role in creating healthier food for healthier lives and ensuring we manage essential resources carefully, source sustainably and ruthlessly reduce waste. Have a look at our three priority areas where we can make a great positive impact to both our business and wider society: health and wellbeing, the environment and the wider community.
In September 2021 we transformed our food offer, moving away from traditional food counters / salad bar to operating the UKs first university full Ghost Kitchen. With the introduction of digital food solutions for ordering via Uni Food Hub app, to e-kiosks and QR codes to take you directly to the food offers. With careful ingredient and menu engineering, we now offer a wider choice of menu items for students to order WHAT they want, WHEN they want it and WHERE they want it. Self Delivery is now a core activity for food across all campus buildings. 59% of the menus are vegetarian / vegan and pricing reflects better value for these dishes. THE TANGIBLE IMPACT is that food waste has reduced by 56% on 2019 (pre-Covid) and reducing further.
Brunel Uni Food is proud to support Brunel University London students with Cost of Living initiatives by creating a program of dishes to be discounted weekly in the app, Offering a free vegetarian meal each Saturday (made with vegetables that would ordinarily have gone to waste) and Free breakfast offer daily (Monday to Friday).
