Brunel Design School has been recognised as one of the best places in the world to research and study design by the 2021 QS World University Rankings by Subject.
In a strong year for the university, nearly half of its subjects (46%) improved their year-on-year position in the rankings, with Brunel University London’s Art and Design, Petroleum Engineering and Sports-related subjects all recognised in the top 100 of their respective global rankings.
Across the university, 12 disciplines, including Business and Management, Engineering (Mechanical, Aeronautical & Manufacturing), and Education were ranked in the world’s top 400.
Launched in 2020, Brunel Design School brought Brunel Design and Brunel Digital together into a single school which aims to approach design from an engineering standpoint, inspired by the legacy of its namesake, Isambard Kingdom Brunel.
The school, which includes nearly 100 staff and 1000 students includes industry-standard design studios, workshops and labs that allow its researchers and students to see real-world projects through from early concept through to fully-fledged working prototypes.
“Brunel has a tradition of turning challenges into opportunities,” said Prof Hua Dong, Dean of Brunel Design School.
“I’d like to congratulate our staff and students for making the launch of the new Brunel Design School such a success and working so diligently to create a brighter future. “
The rankings, compiled by higher education analysts QS Quacquarelli Symonds, provide authoritative comparative analysis on the performance of 14,435 individual university programs across 51 disciplines, taken by students at 1,452 universities in 86 countries.
They consider four sources – global surveys of academics and employers, which gauge each university's international reputation in each subject area, and two indicators which together measure the impact of a university's research.
