Made in Brunel is an annual initiative that encourages Brunel’s final-year design students to think outside the box to design innovative new products, gadgets and devices that showcase their talents and creativity.

After months of research, planning, preparation and designing, the exhibition is an opportunity for the budding entrepreneurs and design experts to promote their skills, products and ideas to industry professionals and the wider creative community.

Students will be showcasing gadgets and devices that could make a positive change to our lives or businesses, improving our health, keeping us safe and making everyday tasks that little bit easier.

This year’s innovations include a way to keep cyclists safe using lasers, a product to soothe menstrual cramps and a gardening tool to reduce the physical strain of weeding.

Made in Brunel is an overarching brand and programme that encapsulates Brunel Design School. It provides students with opportunities to network with industry, promote their work and develop as designers.

Brunel Design School’s extensive collaboration with industry provides students with placements, allows them to hear from guest lecturers and connects them with industry events and advisory boards.

Each year, the Made in Brunel students create a sub-brand and theme for the initiative, giving each exhibition a fresh new look and feel.

Product Design student, Max Younossi, is one of the Made in Brunel students and is also the 2023 Branding Coordinator.

“This year, we've created ‘Made in Brunel – Cutting Edge’, a brand that brings our revolutionary technology and ideas into the limelight.

“Made in Brunel is at the forefront of what's possible, being bold and unafraid to push new thinking and design.

“We pride ourselves in not only creating innovations but having fun whilst doing so, hence our top value this year is Joy,’ he said.

Prof Hua Dong, Head of Brunel Design School, said: “Made in Brunel highlights the excellent work of Brunel Design School students in both design and digital media.

“It started as an ambitious design showcase of the most excellent work that Brunel designers and engineers produce, and it has evolved into a well-recognised brand.

“Not only is it a showcase of great design from Brunel, but it is also a testament to the power of collaboration and the importance of community.

“These strong links between the design department and industry add incredible value to studying design at Brunel University London.

“I invite you to visit the show and see the incredible work our students have produced.”

A Made in Brunel book has also been published, which displays the work produced by all the 2023 Made in Brunel designers. Free copies are available at the exhibition.
