Friends of Moorfields is a registered charity in the UK that helps raise funds and provides support by working closely with the hospital to enhance the research in eye care education such as eye conditions, ocular surgery, and the development of innovative techniques and therapies.
Details of the Volunteering Opportunity:
In this role, you will offer emotional support to patients while also accompanying them into the operating theatre. As a Ward and Theatre Support Volunteer, you will gain valuable exposure to the healthcare environment, learning about medical procedures, patient care, and hospital operations.
Typical duties include:
- Providing emotional support to patients and their families during their hospital stay
- Assisting in the preparation of patients before surgery
- Helping with transporting patients around the ward, helping them to stand or walk when needed
- Supporting theatre staff in preparing surgical instruments, setting up equipment, and maintaining a sterile environment
Please note, this organisation requires a minimum 6 months commitment for 3 hours per week in addition to two references and a DBS check (fully funded).
