Family Friends is a charity dedicated to providing long-term practical and emotional help to families facing a variety of hardships. The organisation provides befriending services to disadvantaged families, boosting parenting confidence, reducing social isolation, and improving access to health and community services.
Details of the Volunteering Opportunity:
In this role, you will act as a buddy to someone aged 10-18, meeting weekly to provide emotional support and encouragement. As a Big Buddy, you will develop your communication skills and empathy, and work flexibly with your buddy to support their development.
Typical duties include:
- Visit your buddy on a regular basis, building a relationship on friendship and trust
- Engage your buddy in conversation, listening to any concerns or welfare issues that may come up
- Submit a feedback form after each session
- Respect the autonomy and dignity of your buddy
Please note, this organisation requires a minimum 6 to 12 months commitment for 2 hours per week in addition to two references and a DBS check (fully funded).
