MHA Communities West London is a charity providing a whole range of support and services for older people, such as social activities and events, supported outings, befriending arrangements, interest groups, signposting, and other services that enable older people to remain actively involved in their local community. The organisation has care homes, retirement living communities, and MHA Communities schemes across the UK, with fifteen sites in North, South, and West London.
Details of the Volunteering Opportunity:
In this role, you will build supportive relationships with individuals who may be experiencing social isolation, loneliness, or other challenges. As a Befriending volunteer, you will learn a set of skills such as active listening, empathy, communication, building relationships, boundaries, cultural sensitivity, problem solving, and flexibility.
Typical duties include:
- Maintaining regular contact with the individual through visits, phone calls, or virtual interactions, as agreed upon
- Spending quality time with the individual, engaging in conversations and activities they enjoy
- Listening to the individual's thoughts, feelings, and concerns, engaging in meaningful conversations
- Offering empathy and emotional support, showing understanding and compassion for their experiences
Please note, this role requires a DBS check and the organisation would like you to commit to a minimum of 3 months.
