FoodCycle - Cooking Volunteer

Details of the Charity:

FoodCycle is a charity largely run by volunteers and operating over England and Wales with 85 weekly community meals. The organisation is at the forefront of tackling food poverty, social isolation, and waste, transforming unused food into nourishing three-course meals fostering meaningful conversations, nourishing the hungry, and giving company to the lonely.

Details of the Volunteering Opportunity:

In this role, you will join the kitchen team to produce a three-course vegetarian meal using surplus food. As a Cooking Volunteer, you will gain hands-on experience with various cooking methods and kitchen equipment, while enhancing your time management skills.

Typical duties include:

  • Peeling and chopping a variety of vegetables and fruits to be used in different courses
  • Mixing and blending components to achieve the right consistency for soups, sauces, and dressings
  • Assisting in the setup and breakdown of the serving area to ensure a smooth meal service
  • Washing up utensils, cookware, and dishes used in meal preparation

Please note, the Brunel Volunteers team would like you to commit to a minimum of 2-3 months.
