Iver Environment Centre is an education centre with garden zones including a rainforest, an orchard, woodlands and allotments. The organisation offers children and their families a range of education programmes and activities, such as include pond dipping, mini-beast hunts, woodland survival, den building and crafts, to explore and understand the natural world and apply their scientific enquiry skills.
Details of the Volunteering Opportunity:
In this role, you will assist with educational activities at Iver Environment Centre (school visits, children’s activities, family learning, adult learning, and birthday parties). As an Education Volunteer, you will learn a set of skills such as subject matter expertise, communication, patience, adaptability, empathy, active listening, problem-solving, and creativity.
Typical duties include:
- Providing one-on-one or small group tutoring sessions introducing the wonders of the natural world
- Assisting educators during activities, helping supervise students, and providing individual attention to those who need it
- Representing the organisation at events such as festivals – manning a stall with fun activities to raise awareness
- Preparing and setting up equipment, tidying, cleaning, and washing up
Please note, the role requires a DBS check and the organisation would like you to commit to a minimum of 3 months.
