Attend is a national charity that supports and expands the roles volunteers play in creating healthy communities. The organisation supports innovation and sets a standard for volunteering, spreading the word through conferences and an extensive range of training programmes.
Details of the Volunteering Opportunity:
In this role, you will visit and interact with a resident through a range of activities selected by mutual agreement. As an Aston House Befriender, you will learn a set of skills such as effective communication, active listening, empathy, patience, cultural sensitivity, and conflict resolution.
Typical duties include:
- Establishing a consistent visiting schedule to ensure residents have someone to look forward to meeting and interacting with
- Carrying out a selection of activities such as reading, writing letters, chatting, music, baking, cooking, gardening, and playing games
- Assisting and accompanying residents on outings, whether it be a simple walk in the park, medical appointments, or special events
- Encouraging residents to share their life stories, memories, and experiences, fostering a deeper connection and understanding
Please note, this role require a DBS check and the organisation would like you to commit to a minimum of 3 months
