On 8th-11th July 2014 at Beaumont Estate, Old Windsor the EPSRC Centre LiME and BCAST hosted the 4th International Conference on Advances in Solidification Processes (ICASP-4) which coincided with 60th anniversary of solidification research. ICASP is a triennial international conference and provided an opportunity for the UK solidification community to showcase its research and to raise its awareness of the progress being made in metal solidification processes elsewhere in the world. With an extensive programme ICASP-4 attracted over 200 delegates from 29 countries and provided LiME with the opportunity to showcase its position as an international leader within the solidification processes field.
ICASP-4 focussed on recent progress in the science and technology of solidification processing covering fundamental research as well as the practical application of this technology within the industry. ICASP-4 also saw the inaugural presentation of the John Hunt Medal, awarded by The Institute of Materials, Minerals and Mining and supported by the General Research Institute of Non-ferrous Metals (GRINM) to an individual who has made an outstanding contribution to the science and/or technology of casting and solidification of metals. This award recognises the lifetime contribution of Porfessor John Hunt FRS and this year was awarded to Professor Rohit Trivedi of Iowa State University.
