Photocathode materials for high performance zinc ion capacitors
Applications are invited for one full-time PhD Studentship within the Department of Chemical Engineering funded by Brunel University London. The PhD studentship is for a period of three (3) years effective 1 January 2024. The successful applicant will receive an annual stipend (bursary) of £ 20,662 plus payment of their full-time tuition fees.
Eligibility
Applicants will have or be expected to receive a minimum 2:1 or 1st class degree in chemical engineering, material science, chemistry or a related discipline. A Masters qualification is an advantage but not essential. UK home and EU candidates are eligible for this studentship.
Project Details
This research aims to develop photocathodes based on metal oxide nanomaterials as cathodes in Zinc ion capacitors. The aim of the project is to categorically develop and improve the Zn storage capability of the cathode and understand the photo charging behaviour by evaluate the capacitor chemistry using in situ and ex situ characterization techniques in collaboration with other research centres in the university and UK. Candidate’s exposure and training in advanced chemical and electrochemical analytical tools such as cyclic voltammetry, Impedance spectroscopy, XRD, SEM-EDS are not essential but would be considered a bonus. The goal of the project will be developed high energy and high-power density photo chargeable Zn-ion capacitors.
Candidates should have experience in electrochemistry, batteries, physical chemistry and chemical engineering. Most importantly candidates should have very strong motivation towards research. They should also have good oral and written communication skills.
Applicants should submit the documents below to be considered for a challenging research project on developing sustainable routes for battery recycling. Informal enquires may be addressed to Dr Abhishek Lahiri or Professor Yinghe He via email to abhishek.lahiri@brunel.ac.uk; or yinghe.he@brunel.ac.uk
