Ignition chemistry of hydrogen fueled engines
Applications are invited for one full-time EPSRC Industrial CASE (ICASE) PhD studentship funded by Shell Global Solutions for the project” Ignition chemistry of hydrogen fueled engines” within the Department of Mechanical and Aerospace Engineering at Brunel University London, starting from 1st October 2024
Successful applicants will receive an annual stipend (bursary) starting from approximately £23,000 plus payment of their full-time home tuition fees for a period of up to 48 months (4 years).
Project Details
Ignition chemistry of hydrogen fueled engines.
The hydrogen powered internal combustion engines are vital to mitigate greenhouse gas emissions but they face several challenges with respect to abnormal knocking combustion. No dedicated hydrogen autoignition correlation that accounts for the chemical effects associated with equivalence ratio variations as well as the residual burnt gas fraction exists. This project aims at developing an autoignition correlation for hydrogen that will account explicitly for the chemical and residual gas effects under a wide range of pressures and temperatures.
Informal enquires may be addressed to Professor Lionel Christopher Ganippa via email to lionel.ganippa@brunel.ac.uk
