A Reader in Civil & Environmental Engineering and a Course Director of the Water Engineering MSc at Brunel University, London.
Dr. Katsou's research interests are focused on the design and application of innovative processes/technologies for industrial and municipal wastewater purification and resource recovery. She develops and tests processes such as membrane bioreactors, sequencing batch reactors, upflow anaerobic sludge blanket to treat a variety of effluents. Furthermore, her research focuses on advanced biological nutrient removal processes such as nitritation/denitritation, enhanced biological phosphorus removal via nitrite and the completely autotrophic nitrogen removal process. At the same time she focuses her research on resource recovery by developing innovative processes to produce bioplastics within wastewater treatment plants. Dr Katsou has also significant consulting activities since she has been awarded contracts from leading UK water industry partners, including Arup, Sever Trent, BuroHappold Engineering, Anglian Water, and Thames Water.
She has authored 80publications , 10 book chapters, over 100 presentations in international conferences/workshop
