Summary
Tom de Vuyst has obtained MSc qualifications in Electro-Mechanical Engineering and Design of Rotating Machines. Initially he worked as a Structural Analyst in the Nuclear Industry before going on to complete his PhD in the development of Meshless Methods, Smoothed Particle Hydrodynamics (SPH) in 2003. Subsequently, he worked on the development of an implicit transient thermo-mechanical finite element solver for welding applications, in particular Friction Stir Welding (FSW). Having taught at Cranfield University for a number of years, Tom has now moved to Brunel University, London where he is a Senior Lecturer in Structural Integrity based at NSIRC, Cambridge.
