On Wednesday, 8th November, the UK Government’s Open Innovation Team (OIT) is coming to campus to deliver a policy masterclass for research staff. This session is linked to Brunel's partnership with the OIT – a cross-government unit that matches academic research to the needs of different Government departments.
Have you ever wondered what you can do to get your research seen by government decision makers? Or how evidence is used in policymaking? Understanding this is key to achieving policy impact as a researcher, or in any job seeking to influence policy.
This half-day training session gets you up to speed on the basics of government and policymaking, and how you can get involved. The training is delivered by a team of civil servants who give pragmatic, practical advice and real-life examples from their policy work.
Who is this suitable for: Researchers who are new to working with government or policy impact.
The training is aimed at early-career researchers (postdoctoral researchers and research fellows).
What does it cover:
- An introduction to the basics of government and parliament
- How policy is made, and how researchers can get involved
- How to build your networks to influence policy
- How to communicate effectively with policymakers
The Masterclass will take place on Wednesday, 8th November in LC 108 from 13.00 to 16.00.
Lunch will be served beforehand, at 12.30pm.
You can register here on inkpath.
Similar training will be provided for Early Career Academics in February 2024. Further details will be circulated to those eligible soon.
