We run a number of initiatives and projects in Hillingdon and are always looking for new ways to meet civic needs and contribute to the civic.

Staff volunteering, process and opportunities

Unlocking the Power of Volunteering: A Path to Personal and Professional Growth

At Brunel university, we believe in the profound impact of giving back to our community. As full-time and permanent staff members, you are entitled to 36 hours of paid time off work each academic year to volunteer, pending approval from your line manager. With 200 diverse opportunities available, now is the perfect time to embrace the spirit of service and make a meaningful difference.

Volunteering offers a unique chance to contribute to causes you're passionate about while reaping a multitude of personal and professional benefits.

Last year students and staff dedicated over 18,000 hours to supporting the local community and charities.

If you would like to get involved in volunteering, opportunities can be found via our webpage: https://www.brunel.ac.uk/pdc/volunteers/opportunities

Brunel Good Neighbour Award

The Brunel Good Neighbour Award was set up in 2012 to recognise and reward courteous and considerate students living in Hillingdon. Local residents can nominate students who they feel have had a positive impact on their street.

RAG

Raise and Give (RAG) is an initiative set up by the Union of Brunel Students which helps students get involved in raising money for charity. This is done through various events and activities which offer every single student the chance to raise money for great causes. Students can fundraise for any UK registered charities with the support RAG, or they can fundraise for the Union's 3-4 supported Charities, which are confirmed at the beginning of each academic year. If you would like to know more about this scheme please click here.

London Himalayan Short Film Festival 2024

London Himalayan Short Film Festival 2024 was organised in collaboration between Brunel South Asia Studies Research Group and The Critical Himalayan Collective and featured a stellar line up of short films from the Himalayan regions of Nepal, Northeast India and Tibet.

The film festival theme was 'Mangkolen' translating to 'Tomorrow' in the indigenous Bantawa language from the Himalayan region and this theme was used to explore key issues facing the Himalayan regions, including ecology, environment, sustainability, indigeneity, identity and diaspora.
