Course Aims

Whether you're looking to build confidence, improve job prospects, or prepare for academic success, our English@Brunel courses have you covered. From beginners to advanced learners, we offer dynamic English classes in London, both face-to-face on our vibrant university campus and online.

Course Format

Our English@Brunel courses are designed to fit your goals and lifestyle, whether you prefer studying in-person, online, or a mix of both.

  • Flexible and Focused Learning: Enjoy 19 hours of English tuition per week, plus guided self-study and individual tutorials.
  • Small, Interactive Classes: With a maximum of 14 students (usually 12), you’ll benefit from personalised attention.
  • Materials: All materials free (course book for longer courses)
  • Minimum Age Requirement: Open to students aged 17 and above.
  • Comprehensive Skills Development: Improve your speaking, listening, reading, writing, grammar, and vocabulary with engaging lessons.
  • Extra Support: IELTS preparation and end-of-course tests available on request.
  • Exciting Extras: Stimulating trips to venues like media centres, football stadiums, and theatres, alongside weekly social activities.

Choose your ideal start date and study duration - please check 'Course Fees and Dates'. Our courses in London and online offer flexibility and expert guidance, including immigration and visa support. 

Accommodation options include on-campus, off-site, or Brunel University Hotel stays.

Free airport pick-up from Heathrow Airport is also available.

Entry requirements

Eligibility Criteria

To apply for a Pre-sessional English or English@Brunel courses, you must:

  • Hold an Academic Offer: A confirmed offer for your main academic programme at Brunel University or another UK institution (for Pre-sessional courses).
  • Meet English Proficiency Requirements: Provide a recognised English qualification, such as IELTS. For students requiring a Student Visa, a Secure English Language Test (SELT) is mandatory (e.g., Academic IELTS for UKVI). Alternatively, when you apply, please state what English Language qualifications you have or ask us to send you a placement test.
  • Minimum Age Requirement: Be at least 17 years old.

For those not pursuing a degree, consider alternative options like Pre-sessional English, Summer Courses for Professionals, English for University Students or Football + English Experience, Teacher Training programmes.

English Language Qualifications Accepted for Student Visa

For Student Visa purposes, ensure your English test is UKVI-approved. Accepted providers include:

  • IELTS SELT Consortium
  • LanguageCert
  • Pearson
  • Trinity College London
  • PSI Services (UK) Ltd

Some IELTS centres run both kinds of Academic IELTS so you must make sure you book the UKVI recognised Academic IELTS called ‘IELTS test for UK Visas and Immigration (UKVI) purposes’.

Holiday

We encourage students to plan their travels during the longer Brunel Language Centre closure periods to avoid missing essential lessons. Please refrain from making travel arrangements during term time to ensure you get the most out of your English learning journey.

Non-teaching Dates and Holidays

Brunel Language Centre observes the following holidays and breaks, during which no classes will take place:

Monday 5 May (Early May Bank Holiday)

Important Note: Students finishing English courses in May 2025 should ensure availability until Friday 9 May 2025.

Monday 26 May (Spring Bank Holiday)

Monday 25 August (Summer Bank Holiday)

Important Note: Students finishing English courses in September 2025 should ensure availability until Friday 12 September 2025.

Students finishing English courses in December 2025 should ensure availability until Friday 12 December 2025.

During Bank Holidays, many businesses, including Brunel University, will be closed. For a smooth experience, please take these dates into account when planning your schedule.
