Course Aims

Our English@Brunel courses are designed to help you improve your level of English through classroom teaching & learning; classroom practice and guided self-study. You will benefit from learning in a mature university environment and be able to use all of the university facilities.

Levels range from beginner to advanced. Choose to study face-to-face online; or face-to-face at Brunel University London.

Course overview:

  • 19 hours of English tuition per week plus individual tutorial and guided self study
  • Maximum class size 14 (normally no more than 12)
  • All materials free (course book for longer courses)
  • Speaking, Listening, Reading and Writing
  • Grammar and Vocabulary
  • End-of-course test if required
  • IELTS preparation and IELTS tests available on request
  • Stimulating and informative trips, eg Television Media Centres, Wembley Football Stadium, Magistrates Courts, Theatres, etc
  • Weekly Social Activities
  • Minimum age 17
  • Expert immigration and visa advice both before and during your studies
  • Accommodation options include student accommodation, Brunel University Hotel and off-site accommodation
  • Free airport pick-up from London’s Heathrow Airport

On Campus: individual, pair, small group and whole class English activities in the classroom.

Online: individual, pair, small group and whole class English activities in the online platform using break-out rooms as necessary.

When you apply, please state what English Language qualifications you have or ask us to send you a placement test.

Please also indicate the number of weeks you wish to study for and which month you wish to start.

Fees £362 to £425 per week, depending on the length of the course.

Entry requirements

To apply for a Pre-sessional course, you must:

  • Hold an offer for your main academic course.
  • Have a recognised English qualification, such as IELTS (students who require a Student Visa must hold a SELT, such as 'Academic IELTS for UKVI')

Please note: You will only be able to apply for a Student Visa to undertake a Pre-sessional English course if you have a Secure English Language Test (SELT):

Some IELTS centres run both kinds of Academic IELTS so you must make sure you book the UKVI recognised Academic IELTS called ‘IELTS test for UK Visas and Immigration (UKVI) purposes’.

Holiday

We recommend that students only make plans to leave the UK during the longer Brunel Language Centre closure periods of 3 weeks.

Students are advised not to make plans to leave the UK during term time.

Teaching will not take place on the following dates, which include Brunel Language Centre holiday dates and Bank Holidays. Bank Holidays are public holidays and the university and many businesses will be closed on these dates.
