On the 6th February, Brunel Law School hosted a very successful and inspirational workshop that was led by members of GE Aviation’s legal team. As a result, nine Brunel law students, selected from amongst those who excelled in their performance on the day, accepted an invitation to attend an ‘Insight Day’ at GE Aviation’s Heathrow office.
The students who took part in this initiative, held on the 19th April, were more than delighted with the extremely comprehensive and exciting programme that was laid on for them. When asked to describe what the experience was like, “awesome” and “amazing” are just two of the adjectives bandied about in response.
In addition to being given a ‘taster’ of some of the practical skills that complement their academic studies, such as how to negotiate and draft contracts, the students had opportunities to network with, and speak to, members of both the UK and US legal teams. This hands-on experience enabled them to gain valuable insights into the working lives of an In-house Legal Team, and one that operates on an international scale. As an added bonus, they also learnt a bit about the mechanics of jet engines, only to be expected if you were working for a world-leading provider of commercial and military jet engines and components.
More importantly, the students returned afterwards, both enthused and reassured that they had made the right career choice when they decided to study law at university.
