Microsoft Teams is a unified communication and collaboration platform that combines persistent workplace chat and video meetings.

Why Microsoft Teams?

It allows you to message your colleagues rather than sending formal emails, and is fantastic for chatting one to one or posting a message for your entire team to see.

  • Collaborating on files couldn’t be easier too – simply post it in the relevant Team so your colleagues can review it and update it in real-time, with no need to send out an email and keep track of versions / edits etc.
  • You can easily make online audio and video calls to your colleague and can organise Teams meetings for multiple people to join too (whether they’re in your team or not, and even if they’re external attendees).

Please be aware that students do not currently have access to Microsoft Teams, but we're working on it - more info to follow soon!

How do I access Microsoft Teams?

All Brunel staff and affiliates have access to Microsoft Teams – simply login to the web app. Once logged in, you should see…

  • a team for your directorate or college (starting with “DIR” then your directorate’s name or “COLL” then your college’s name);
  • a team for your department (starting with “DEP” then your department’s name);
  • and within a couple of days you will also see a team called “GEN-Teams Tips & Tricks”.

Underneath each team there are Channels - these are dedicated sections to keep conversations organised by specific topics, projects, disciplines—-whatever works for your team!

We’ve setup your relevant directorate, college and department based on information from CHIME, if any of this information appears to be wrong, please contact your HR representative. Also, if you’d like a Team that doesn’t fit in the standard CHIME structure, please contact Computing-Support@brunel.ac.ukopens new window.
