Museum Late: In the Frame

A year on from the opening of our Global Poster Gallery the London Transport Museum are hosting a night of art-and-design-filled-fun inspired by the Museum’s world class collection of transport posters.

 

Explore the Museum’s galleries and exhibitions after-hours, and enjoy craft workshops, gallery tours, and talks, before grabbing a drink from one of our bars.

 

'In the Frame' sees Brunel's Magali Peyrefitte host short workshops that delve into your own experiences of London’s suburbs, how it has evolved and how it is changing right now, using images from the Museum’s collection as inspiration.

Retro poster printing

18:30 – 21:45 | Transportorium | drop in

Print your own retro poster with designer Samantha Foley from Scene in London. Take inspiration from London Transport Museum’s collection of printed posters, set the scene with colour and use printing techniques to add texture.

LED art

18:30 – 21:45 | London by Design gallery | drop in

Spark your creativity and transform one of Transport for London’s iconic posters using an LED circuit. Decorate your poster or transform it into a pin badge and wear it home.

Creative writing workshop

Explore suburban London through creative writing and historic posters of Metroland. In these short workshops hosted by Dr Magali Peyrefitte from Brunel University, delve into your own experiences of London’s suburbs, how it has evolved and how it is changing right now, using images from the Museum’s collection as inspiration.

Dr Magali Peyrefitte has expertise in the social sciences at the crossroad between urban sociology, geography and criminology and in addressing questions regarding home, housing and communities and her recent research projects have focused on the socio-economic and cultural changes that are transforming the suburbs of London.

Mini quiz with The Nightbus

Know a thing of two about design? Test your knowledge of poster art, Tube maps, and iconic stations in a design-themed mini quiz hosted by drag extraordinaire The Nightbus!

The Nightbus is an artist, a visionary and a route home after one too many Whisky Sours up West! Treading the boards of London’s Cabaret and Nightlife scene for nearly ten years, you’re in for a treat with this 7-foot Glamazon on Wheels.

Poster Girls guided tour

Explore the history of London Transport poster design and learn how posters were designed, commissioned and made. This tour focusses on women poster artists such as Dora Batty and sisters Anna and Doris Zinkeisen.

Iconic Design & Branding guided tour

Explore the history of London Transport poster design and learn how posters were designed, commissioned and made. This tour navigates the development of the world-renowned TfL branding through poster art.

Short talk & Q&A: The power of posters in branding a new identity

Join Sau-Fun Mo, London Transport Museum’s Head of Design & Presentation, to explore how posters can be pivotal in branding strategy, combining visual design with emotional storytelling to leave lasting impressions for new brands in an increasingly crowded marketplace.

Short talk & Q&A: For Business or Pleasure, London Transport poster art and its promotion of London

Matt Brosnan, London Transport Museum’s Head Curator, will discuss how and why the Underground and London Transport commissioned posters, and look at some of the artists who created them.
