Dr Sarah Cang
Senior Lecturer in Mathematics / Statistics

Summary

Dr Cang teaches Data Science subject. Prior to joining the University,  she has had both industry and academic experience. She worked for a leading UK software company, where she was involved in developing statistical software for the pharmaceutical industries and biological research laboratories. Then worked at Exeter University and Bournemouth University etc. She also worked for a UK Government Research Laboratory and in Central Government Department as Senior Statistician/Senior Analyst, where applied statistical and pattern recognition techniques to solve real and complex problems.

In terms of the research funding, she received a number of EU funded projects. As local PI, she received H2020-MSCA-ITN funded by European Commission (€ 2.7 millions) with the project title: “Critical solutions for elderly well-being” at 2019, and  a project CHARMED (Characterisation of a green microenvironment and to study its impact upon health and well-being in the elderly as a way forward for health tourism) is funded under the Horizon 2020 European Commission (€2.2 million) at 2017.  These projects aim to address the challenges of digital health tourism for elderly people. She also received Erasmus Mundus cLINK (€2.5 million), FUSION (€3.05 million), SMart rObOTs for fire-figHting (SMOOTH) (€0.9 million) and EU Marie Curie IRSES RABOT (€310.8K) projects as As local PI and PI. 

In terms of publications, she has submitted in RAE 2008, REF 2014 and REF2021. She has published international Journal papers such as European Journal of Operational Research, Decision Support Systems, Expert Systems with Applications, International Journal of Production Economics, International Journal of Tourism Research, Current Issues in Tourism, Tourism Economics and IEEE Journal of Biomedical and Health Informatics & IEEE Transactions on Neural Systems & Rehabilitation Engineering etc.

She was recognized as the World's Top 2% scientists by Stanford University since 2020. Her i10-index is 60 and is about 3158 citations since 2018.
