Animation: Patch Modelling
- Patches are used to model surfaces that are curvilinear (bounded by a curved line) such as heads, mountains etc.
- Patches are based on Bezier splines. Adjustment to patches result in smooth curves rather than straight lines that you find in mesh modeling.
- Patch modeling make use of surfaces that are controlled and deformed through the use of vertices (called control points). By adjusting a vertex, you can affect the surface of a patch.
- When you move a control point it is deformed as a Bezier curve, whose deformations are smooth and not angular as found with a vertex on a mesh.
- The control points of a patch surface also have controls you can adjust to give a different look to the curvature of the surface.
