The Centre for Energy and Built Environment Research group (CEBER) conducts research on ways to use energy resources efficiently and reduce the environmental impacts of energy consuming equipment and buildings.
Developing these goals is vital to carbon emission reduction and economic development and prosperity. The CEBER group carries out one of the largest single and two-phase heat transfer research activities in the UK. This includes long-term research in collaboration with other leading UK universities and industrial partners, on flow boiling in small to micro passages, heat transfer enhancement techniques, and foam heat exchangers. Grants from government and industry support this research work.
We are involved in microclimate and environmental design. This includes investigations of energy consumption, indoor air quality and natural ventilation strategies in operational buildings, including user satisfaction, experimental and computational studies of the Urban Heat Island and its effect on building design.
CEBER also conducts research on important environmental aspects of heating, cooling and refrigeration and the design of more efficient systems to provide the required thermal environment for buildings and processes.
