Summary
Dr Sharma Hewitt started work at Brunel Medical School in 2021 as a Medical Education Fellow, a diverse role helping to establish the new Medical School in preparation for its first intake of students. He mostly worked within the remit of Clinical Practice (skills and procedures) designing and developing new teaching resources including student study guides and teaching videos.
Dr Sharma Hewitt is the founding Course Director of Resuscitation for Medical Disciplines (RMD) Brunel, a European resuscitation Council (ERC) accredited teaching programme, delivering Basic Life Support resuscitation training through interprofessional near-peer teaching and assessment. Having established Brunel Medical School as the ERC accredited Course Centre, he pioneered the roll-out of the RMD programme to deliver resuscitation training to the Medicine, Nursing and Physician Associate degree programmes. RMD now forms a pillar for interprofessional learning across the College of Health, Medicine and Life Sciences. He continues to lead the faculty of staff as the Course Director of RMD Brunel to deliver ongoing teaching to students on healthcare degree programmes.
Dr Sharma Hewitt graduated from the University of Bristol with a BSc (Hons.) degree in Physiological Science before completing his medical MBChB degree also at the University of Bristol. Dr Sharma Hewitt is a practising medical doctor who is undergoing his postgraduate speciality training in Anaesthetics at the Central London School of Anaesthesia. He has extensive experience in teaching and mentoring students across a range of curricula and pedagogy and has been awarded Membership of the Academy of Medical Educators. He continues to work as an Honorary Lecturer in Medical Education at Brunel Medical School around his clinical work in Anaesthesia.
