Dr Edward Ho Yu Tat
Senior Lecturer in Mathematics / Statistics

Summary

Dr Edward Ho was born in Malaysia but had his undergraduate studies in Singapore and post-graduate studies in the United Kingdom. Dr Ho was awarded with his first degree, B.Eng. (Hons) by Nanyang Technological University in 2000 with his final year project on ‘Ultrasound Calibration in Augmented Reality for Therapy’ and Ph.D. degree (Medical Physics and Biomedical Engineering) by University College London in 2008 with his PhD thesis titled ‘Resolution Improvement and the Effect of Blurring on Medical Image Analysis and Computer Vision’. Dr Ho also represented the Asia Pacific region to participate at the PPARC funded University of Cambridge’s Particle Physics and Astronomy Summer School in 2000.

In his PhD thesis, Dr Ho proposed a novel super-resolution image reconstruction generic framework by incorporating blob-based basis functions to further improve quality of image reconstruction. More recently, Dr Ho is collaborating with Professor Zang-Hee Cho, a pioneer in Positron Emission Tomography (PET) and Magnetic Resonance Imaging (MRI) scanners in 1972, and installed the world first PET-MRI scanner in 2008. Dr Ho is investigating with Professor Cho on super-resolution track density imaging, following the installation of the world first 7.0 Tesla MRI scanner by Professor Cho in 2005.

Dr Ho’s academic and research background is inter-disciplinary and covering engineerings to computer science, physics to applied mathematics and statistics, with his current research focus on medical image computing, analysis, processing and reconstruction, as well as artificial intelligence.

Dr Ho has over 20 years of teaching and research experiences in the United Kingdom, Singapore, Malaysia, Taiwan (China), Hong Kong (China) and Mainland, China.
