Integrating digital transformation and circular economy for decarbonised construction & demolition waste diversion: enhancing Vietnam and UK’s research & practice (AIRINESS)
Funder: Academy of Medical SciencesDuration: March 2024 - March 2025
In response to the challenges encountered by Indochina Peninsula countries as they strive to advance digital-driven urban development while expediting the adoption of Circular Economy (CE) principles for decarbonization, AIRINESS is dedicated to establishing a collaborative network of academic scholars and industry experts in the United Kingdom, Vietnam, Laos, and Cambodia. This networking research builds upon Vietnam’s research and societal needs of CE towards sustainability [3] and UK’s net zero roadmap [4], bridging UK academic and industries on research-informed practices on digital & AI-driven decarbonisation for C&DW management. AIRINESS employs a hybrid research methodology to accomplish these objectives. Proposed research methods include: (1) policy studies to review and evaluate the existing codes and standards related to digital transformation of CE, and to propose suggestions for policy decision-makers; (2) field research to collect data on the practice of C&DW, the perception, awareness and applications of CE, the practice of carbon emission in the CI of Vietnam amid C&DW management; (3) adopting comparative studies of lessons learnt and best practices between UK and Indochina Peninsula countries; and (4) demonstrating selected digital applications for CE-oriented C&DW management.
