Senior Technician - Analytical Chemistry

Summary

As the Senior Technician for Analytical Chemistry, I  provide a comprehensive support service accross the College of Health, Medicine and Life Sciences.  This includes supporting or leading the teaching of technical/ practical skills to undergraduate and post graduate students, supporting reasearch and conducting consultancy activities. 

I am an Associate Fellow of the Higher Education Academy and the professional member of the Royal Society of Chemistry holding the Chartered Chemist status.

I am actively involved in Brunel's wider initiatives such as organising research conferences and lab tours and promoting our Anaytical Chemistry facilities.

As the part-time doctoral researcher, I am focused on the presence and fate of wide range of contaminants including personal care and household products. The title of my thesis is: "Occurance and Fate of Household chemicals in domestic wastewater".

Responsibility

  • Run and maintain Analytical Chemistry laboratories
  • Support practical classes in Analytical Chemistry
  • Support research undertaken within the Analytical Chemistry laboratories
  • Provide complex instrument training and support teaching
  • Responsible for the heath and safety of people working in our laboratories
