Using social media to develop doctoral researchers’ profiles, and the visibility of their research

Funder: Techne
Duration: September 2020 - October 2020

Social media can amplify the reach and impact of research. Some funders even expect researchers to keep some form of social media presence to disseminate the results of their findings. Therefore, it is critical for doctoral researchers to learn how to leverage these media, while being alert for the pitfalls associated with their use. This workshop will help Techne doctoral researchers who want to use social media to develop their profile and the visibility of their research, to a) decide which platforms to use, 2) learn how to use different features to communicate effectively, and 3) understand how to avoid common pitfalls. We will take participants through a six-step social media plan, from one-off, simple actions such as creating a digital identifier, to more involved efforts such as blogging, podcasting or producing short videos.
