Summary
Siew-Peng’s career has taken her from Singapore to Amsterdam and then London, spanning the academic, business and non-profit sectors. Her non-academic work centred on writing (as advertising copywriter, newspaper columnist and magazine editor) and change management consulting. Her PhD was based on research in a cluster of sheltered housing schemes designed for elderly Chinese in the north of England.
Then as a stay-at-home mother she researched graduate stay-at-home mothers in Singapore on a British Academy research grant (2004). Inspired by these mothers she started her own business in 2005 when illness and family needs prevented her return to university-based work.
Though her main academic interests are in ageing amongst ethnic and migrant groups, her current interests include the welfare state and business anthropology.
