Tell us about your educational and/or career journey since you graduated from Brunel?
I have recently obtained a job as a Social Media and Marketing Assistant in the Professional Development Centre department of the Careers team at Brunel University London. My role involves supporting the university's social media and marketing initiatives, as well as assisting with the development and implementation of various campaigns and projects.
What does a typical day at work involve for you?
As a Social Media and Marketing Assistant, I am responsible for managing the university's social media accounts, creating content, and engaging with the university's followers and target audience. I am also helping with organizing events and workshops, designing promotional materials, and conducting market research to understand the needs and preferences of students and other stakeholders.
What’s been the highlight of your career journey so far?
The most outstanding aspect of my experience has been the opportunity to engage in diverse projects and challenges beyond my imagination. A key highlight for me has been networking with employers and attending events to establish valuable connections.
How would you say your Brunel experience has helped you to get where you are today?
Brunel has provided me with numerous extracurricular activities and opportunities that have facilitated my personal and professional growth. I availed myself of all available opportunities and made the most of each one of them, acquiring valuable skills that proved instrumental in securing my current role.
Why did you choose to study at Brunel and why would you recommend Brunel to others?
I fell in love with the campus I found the structure of my course to be really good also. I highly recommend studying at Brunel for its commitment to creating an inclusive environment, providing good support, and offering numerous opportunities to students. Additionally, the strong sense of community at Brunel fosters a great environment for both personal and academic development.
What is your best memory of studying here?
One of my fondest memories at Brunel was participating in the Fashion Show event, where I had the opportunity to showcase my culture and traditional clothing while experiencing the diverse international community at Brunel. The afterparty was also an excellent opportunity to socialize and meet new people, creating a warm and welcoming atmosphere reminiscent of home.
If you could give one piece of advice to current Brunel students, what would that be?
I would suggest making the most of the opportunities available at Brunel, including programs such as the Ready Programme, Brunel Plus, the D-Ford Challenge, student ambassador roles, volunteering, and exchange programs. I cannot stress enough how much these extracurricular activities have contributed to my personal development during my time at Brunel and helped me become the person I am today.
What would be your top tip or key advice for new graduates as they begin their career journey after leaving Brunel?
My advice would be to be open to new opportunities and experiences. Your first job may not be your dream job, but it can be a stepping stone to getting you where you want to be. I didn’t plan on working at Brunel, but I took the chance and I have grown so much and enjoyed every single bit of my role. And also, remember that success is not just about climbing the career ladder but also about finding work that aligns with your values and passions. Take the time to reflect on what matters most to you and seek out opportunities that allow you to make a meaningful impact.
