Biography

Private Joseph Frederick Ore attended Borough Road College for two years from 1900-1902, where he succeeded in sciences, graduating from the college with an Intermediate Science classification. He is listed as being destined for a boarding school at Larkhall Lane, Clapton. Ore then went on to be a science master at Hugh Myddleton School in London. In September 1914 Ore signed up for the 1st Battalion, Middlesex Regiment. Initially he served as a machine gunner on an armored train in Egypt fighting against the Sennusi, but in 1916 his battalion was transferred to France. Ore was killed at the Battle of the Somme on 7 October 1916. Ore’s wife E M Ore unveiled the war memorial at Borough Road College on 14 May 1921.
