Details of the Charity:

Bookmark Reading is a charity helping every child to read, as fully developing these skills can greatly improve future prospects. The organisation delivers one-to-one reading programmes to children from disadvantaged backgrounds, for whom the benefits of reading can be the most transformative. 

Details of the Volunteering Opportunity:

In this role, you will join reading sessions with a child between 5 and 11 years old to support them across a six-week period. As a Reading Volunteer, you will have the opportunity to develop your communication skills and work with children from a variety of backgrounds.

Typical duties include: 

  • Attending 30-minute one-to-one reading sessions on 2 days per week
  • Read, play literacy games, and monitor the child’s progress across a six-week period
  • Attend sessions both online and in-person, depending on your schedule and commitments
  • Being an enthusiastic, encouraging companion for each child you are matched with

Please note, the organisation requires that you to commit to a minimum of 3 months at 1 hour a week as well as two references and a DBS check (fully funded).
