Summary

I am a Reader (Associate Professor) in Accounting and Finance at Brunel Business School. In the past I was also the Divisional Lead for the Division of Accounting at Brunel. I practice research led teaching and do research that is multi-disciplinary, relevant and impactful. One of my research papers, 'Environmental and social disclosures: Link with corporate financial performance'  is the top cited paper (as of 2021) of British Accounting Review - a premier Accounting and Finance journal.

My research is currently informing policy on sustainability reporting as I continue to work with the European Financial Reporting Advisory Group (EFRAG) on their European Sustainability Reporting Standards (ESRS) development. In the past, I have made written submissions to various national regulatory bodies including the Financial Reporting Council, UK. I also responded to the open consultation on potential changes to the governance and financing of European Financial Reporting Advisory Group (EFRAG). 

My research interests span the fields of accounting, finance, entrepreneurship/small business and the informal sector particularly the domestic work sector.

Responsibility

I am currently the module leader for the PG module MG5612 'Financial Accounting' and MG5615(D) 'Understanding Business and Management Research Methods'.  I am also co-teaching on the third year UG optional module MG3609 'Corporate Reporting'.  I regularly supervise  MSc dissertations of PG students as well as the final year projects of UG students. 

I am currently supervising two doctoral candidates researching in the fields of corporate governance and  corporate social responsibility. 

My third doctoral student, Omar Albasteki has recently earned his PhD. His thesis is titled : Corporate Stakeholders, Environmental and Social Risks and Enterprise Risk Management: Towards an Integrating Framework.
