Dr Concetta Bubici
Senior Lecturer

Summary

My academic journey began with a combined 5-year BSc and MSc degree in biological sciences at the University of L’Aquila in Italy, followed by a PhD in experimental medicine and endocrinology. As part of an exchange PhD program, I relocated to the United States to join the laboratory of Professor Guido Franzoso at the Ben May Department for Cancer Research at the University of Chicago, where I trained as a molecular biologist investigating the regulation and function of the NF-κB transcription factor. Initially, I worked as a visiting postgraduate student and subsequently as a Postdoctoral Fellow with the invaluable support of the American-Italian Cancer Foundation (AICF) Fellowship. In July 2007, I moved to the UK, where I was appointed as a Lecturer in the Faculty of Medicine at Imperial College London, setting up my own research group in cell signaling and cancer. In 2013, I joined the Division of Biosciences at Brunel University of London as a Lecturer in Biomedical Science.

My group researches the molecular mechanisms that underlie cancer cell survival and their interplay with the metabolic processes. Our aim is to provide valuable insights that will enhance cancer patient treatment options. Furthermore, I am dedicated to educating the next generation of scientists through my teaching in both undergraduate and postgraduate programs.
