The existence of an awarding gap in degree outcomes between BAME and White students in the UK has attracted attention from stakeholders in higher education. Data for the sector as a whole (2018/19) show that 83.7% of white students undertaking a first degree at a UK higher education institution received a “good honour” of a 2.1 or above – compared to 64.5% of BAME students.
