Dr Rabee Shamass
Senior Lecturer in Structural Engineering

Howell Building 254

Research area(s)

  • Buckling of shell structures
  • Structural response during extreme loading conditions, such as a fire, seismic
  • Novel materials such as stainless steel, high strength steel and FRP’s in building and infrastructural
  • Fatigue performance
  • Utilization of construction and industrial waste materials
  • Steel-concrete composite structures
  • Application of AI in structural/civil engineering.

Research Interests

  • Advanced composites, and smart materials.
  • The use of AI to develop implement real-time monitoring systems to assess the condition of structures and detect early signs of deterioration or damage.
  • Research novel materials, including Novel Concretes (AAC and CO2-absorbing cements for civil and energy infrastructure applications)
  • Development of efficient design guidance for composite structures, FRP reinforced concrete (RC), Stainless steel members and stainless steel RC.
  • Recycled concrete aggregates for structural applications.
  • Circular economy and utilisation of C&D waste for digital manufacturing (i.e. 3D Printing from Recycled Materials; Waste-to-Product Innovations).
  • Advanced Numerical Modelling
  • AI in Structural Engineering for design optimization
